We, the undersigned, on behalf of South-South members of the APC in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, write to express our deep concern and disappointment over the lack of adequate representation and lately, complete exclusion from the Executive structure of the party. This to us is an ethnic cleansing attempt.
Despite our contributions to the party’s growth and success, we have been marginalized and excluded from decision-making processes. This is unacceptable and undermines the principles of fairness, justice, and equality that our party claims to uphold.
It will interest you to know that at the formation of the party in the FCT, leaders agreed to form an all-inclusive party that will accommodate all the geopolitical zones in the FCT across the structures and a zoning formula was adopted for the State Executives as follows:
1. North Central/Indigenous people – 22 positions
2. North East – 2 positions
3. North West – 2 positions
4. South East – 2 positions
5. South-South – 1 position
6. South West – 3 positions
The last congresses of the party was conducted in October 2021 with the State Executive Congress holding on 15th October, 2021 at Brifina Hotel, Gwagwalada, the Congress Committee sent from the National headquarters announced the election of all the Executives as duly elected through a consensus voice vote in the presence of party Leaders, members, supporters, INEC, Police, CSOs, and other Security agencies.
There was no parallel Congress conducted anywhere in the FCT, but to our greatest surprise some disgruntled members, without regards to the constitution of the party, came up with another list of Executives from Wards, Area Councils and State, where they removed the Executives they dont like and replaced them with persons that never participated in the party congresses, with reckless impunity, all because they have money.
The most annoying part was that the only position of Woman Leader zoned to the South-South geopolitical zone in the State Executive was replaced with somebody from the North Central, a zone that is already holding twenty two (22) positions in the State Executives, this is beyond marginalisation, it is total exclusion of a Geopolitical zone from the Executive structure of the APC in FCT and an attempt of ethnic cleansing, this is unacceptable to us as a zone.
We want to draw the attention of the National Chairman and critical Stakeholders of the party to the continued marginalisation and exclusion of South-South from the APC structure in the FCT.
It is on record that the South-South has contributed immensely to the growth, development and success recorded by the party in the FCT. We have used our resources to mobilise strong support and loyalty of our people to the APC even in the midst of distrust in the past.
We believe that this exclusion is a result of discrimination and a clear disregard for the interests and aspirations of South-South members of APC in the FCT. We urge the party at the National level to take immediate action to address this injustice and ensure that our members are returned back to their positions.
Our demand:
– Inclusive Representation: Ensure that South-South members in the FCT are adequately represented in the party’s Executive structure.
– Fairness and Justice: Address the discriminatory practices that have led to our exclusion and ensure that all members are treated fairly and justly.
– Accountability: Hold accountable those responsible for our exclusion and ensure that they are sanctioned accordingly.
We hope that immediate action will be taken to address this injustice.
