A Nigerian social media influencer, Abba Mohammed Ali known as Captain Abba G, has issued a formal clarification and retraction following a controversial post on his Facebook and Instagram accounts (@abbaGmediaTeam) that referenced Abdulazeez Kaka, sparking widespread discussion.
In a statement on Monday 22nd April 2025, Abba G acknowledged that the post, which was interpreted by some as suggesting Kaka made derogatory remarks about northern Nigerians, was misleading and did not accurately reflect the context of the conversation in question.
The post had prompted concerns over its potential to incite division and harm Kaka’s reputation.
“I deeply regret any misunderstanding, unintended offence, or reputational discomfort the post may have caused,” Ali stated, emphasising that he had no intention to malign Kaka’s character.
He clarified that any inference likening northerners to “goats” was a misrepresentation and did not reflect Kaka’s actual words or intent.
Ali, who describes himself as a supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration, said the post was motivated by his advocacy for the government’s policies.
He noted that the content has since been removed from all platforms, and a clarification has been shared with his audience to promote fairness and public harmony.
The influencer, reaffirmed his commitment to upholding Nigeria’s laws and ethical standards governing freedom of expression, cybersecurity, and public discourse.
“This clarification is issued in good faith, with a strong desire to promote understanding, mutual respect, and responsible civic engagement,” he added.
It’s important to ensure that public statements are clear and accurate to avoid misunderstandings. Misinterpretations can lead to unnecessary conflicts and harm reputations. Ali’s clarification highlights the need for responsible communication, especially when advocating for political policies. Promoting mutual respect and understanding is crucial for public harmony.
