In a symbolic move aimed at unifying and energizing Northern Nigerian youth, Ummusalma Isiaka Rabiu, the Chairperson and Convener of the Arewa Youth Summit, officially unveiled the Arewa Progressives Youth (APY) on Sunday, July 20th, 2025, in the heart of Kano City.

The unveiling, which was part of the high-level activities at the Arewa Youth Summit, drew hundreds of youth leaders, civil society actors, political stakeholders, and community influencers from across the 19 Northern states and the FCT.

In her endorsement speech, Ummusalma declared the launch of the Arewa Progressives Youth as the birth of a new socio-political movement aimed at mobilizing Northern youth for nation-building, political education, and economic empowerment. According to her, Arewa Progressives Youth will serve as a vanguard for promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially among the youth of the North.

“We are here to tell a new story of Arewa — one not of helplessness but of hope, not of complaints but of contributions,” she said. “Today marks the beginning of a movement committed to progressive values and national unity.”

The Chairperson also used the platform to openly endorse President Tinubu for a second term in 2027, citing the President’s bold economic reforms and investment in youth-focused programs.

“Just as nations like Singapore, Malaysia, and Rwanda endured tough but necessary reforms to become global models, Nigeria under President Tinubu is charting a new course. It is our responsibility to stand by that vision,” she added.

Highlighting key initiatives such as fuel subsidy removal, FX liberalization, digital inclusion, student loan and tax reforms, Ummusalma urged the youth to look beyond short-term hardship and embrace the long-term promise of economic transformation.

She further called on young people across the region to join the movement and participate actively in rebuilding Arewa, using Arewa Progressives Youth as a platform for mobilization, advocacy, and empowerment.

The summit featured panel discussions, speeches, and breakout sessions centered on understanding and communicating reforms, countering misinformation, and repositioning the North as a key player in Nigeria’s future.

As the curtains closed, the message was clear — Arewa is rising, and its youth are ready to lead.
