A Heartfelt Tribute to Our Illustrious Departed Monarch: His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, The Awujale of Ijebuland
With heavy hearts and profound reverence, we, the entire people of Patriotic Nigeria Youth Forum(PNYF) , mourn the peaceful transition of our revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebuland, who joined his ancestors on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.
For over 65 remarkable years, our beloved Awujale graced the throne of his ancestors, presiding over Ijebuland with unparalleled grace, sagacity, and an unwavering dedication to the welfare of his subjects. His historic reign, spanning more than six decades from April 2, 1960, was characterized by enduring peace, stability, and significant socio-economic advancement, transforming Ijebuland into a vibrant and prosperous domain.
Oba Adetona’s visionary leadership was instrumental in fostering an environment conducive to growth and development. Under his astute guidance, Ijebuland witnessed remarkable strides in various sectors, including education, infrastructure, commerce, and community empowerment. His Majesty’s tireless efforts not only elevated the standard of living for his people but also positioned Ijebuland as a formidable force within the comity of states.
Beyond his developmental strides, Kabiyesi remained a staunch custodian of our rich cultural heritage. He meticulously preserved and promoted the cherished traditions, customs, and values that define the Ijebu identity. Notably, his unwavering support and elevation of the annual Ojude Oba festival transformed it into a globally recognized cultural spectacle, a vibrant testament to the Ijebu spirit and a powerful tool for cultural renaissance, instilling a deep sense of pride and belonging in every Ijebu son and daughter, both at home and in the diaspora. His commitment to cultural renaissance ensures that the legacy of our forefathers continues to thrive.
A true father figure, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, embodied humility, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. His counsel was sought by leaders far and wide, and his pronouncements resonated with wisdom and foresight. He was a source of inspiration, a unifying force, and a symbol of hope for all.
As we bid farewell to our extraordinary monarch, we extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the Council of Chiefs, the government and people of Ogun State, and all sons and daughters of Ijebuland worldwide. We pray that his noble soul finds eternal rest and that his enduring legacy continues to inspire generations.
